![]() The Flat Stanley project has students send a cut-out picture of the book’s main character in an envelope along with a letter asking the addressee to take Stanley with them during their travels. In the book, a little boy named Stanley is flattened by his bulletin board after it falls on him, earning him the nickname ‘Flat Stanley.’ The story then takes Stanley on many adventures when he travels inside of an envelope through the mail, all the while being only half an inch thick. WHITPAIN – The third-grade class at Blue Bell Elementary School got a tour of many historical landmarks throughout Philadelphia without ever having to leave the classroom.īlue Bell third-grade teachers Natalie Macy, Mary Shannon and Sandie Swanger incorporated the popular ‘Flat Stanley’ project, based on the children’s book by Jeff Brown, to help students learn about the city and its history.
